Mango Turmeric Lassi

A DAIRY-FREE MANGO LASSI WITH FRESH TURMERIC ROOT

IMG_2379IMG_2434I was inspired to put my own spin of this delicious healthy drink after a trip to my personal, #1 spot in Cambridge for Indian food–Punjab Dhaba! Because I absolutely love Indian food, you would think I would have tasted this drink a long time ago.  I was definitely missing out on greatness! If you like fruity smoothies like I do, this drink is a must try.The turmeric root adds a kick of spice to complement the mango.  It’ll have your tastebuds fulfilled from the first sip! We buy our turmeric root from the produce section of nutritional stores next to the ginger root and other root veggies.  But if you’re having a hard time getting your hands on some, ground turmeric root, found in the spice section of most grocery stores, can be easily substituted for many of the same benefits. For those of you not familiar with turmeric root’s medicinal benefits, there are several: It’s an awesome anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-depressant, and it also improves brain function, making it the perfect quick get-up-and-go drink before work. Who needs coffee!?

  1. Blend all the ingredients together in a blender on high speed. Grate extra turmeric on top for garnish.
Recipe Notes

For this recipe, you can definitely use fresh mango, but you may want to add ice if you do.  We used slightly defrosted frozen mango, and it acted as ice in our recipe without watering down any of the flavors.
